Ps. 68 is a reflection by David on the triumphant victory of the Israelites over the nations, because God had walked with them through and through; from Pharaoh’s grip in Egypt, through Sinai to the Holy Mountain, and into Jerusalem- the city of God.
When one reads through the psalm it may perhaps remind you of your own journey in life. When you were held captive by your enemies – perhaps in an abusive relationship, maybe some form of addiction or another, maybe some bad habits, financial struggles, the pain of the loss of a loved one or illness, an unforgiving heart, psychological or spiritual bondage- whatever it was; and you struggled to let go and let God. You went through the desert of some sort. Then the Lord held your hand. He gave you grace, he held you close – you triumphed over your enemies, he scattered the kingdoms of desperation and helplessness and despair; then as the psalmist writes in v.35, we must praise the Lord’s awesomeness, the Lord who gives power and strength to his people.
I want to pray with you Ps. 68 v.1-6: May God arise, may your enemies be scattered; may your challenges flee before him. May the Lord blow them away like smoke – as wax melts before the fire, may every attack directed at you perish in the name of Jesus Christ. Be happy and joyful, be glad and rejoice before God; sing to God, “ sing in praise of his name, extol him who rides on the clouds; rejoice before him – his name is the Lord. A father to the fatherless, a defender of widows, is God in his holy dwelling. God sets the lonely in families, he leads out the prisoners with singing.” He saves from all our troubles and worries and pain. On the cross he died for me. In his resurrection I am made anew. Praise the Lord. Amen.
