Psalms. 35:12-15 “They repay me evil for good and leave me like one bereaved. Yet when they were ill, I put on sackcloth and humbled myself with fasting. When my prayers returned to me unanswered. I went about mourning as though for my friend or brother. I bowed my head in grief as though weeping for my mother. But when I stumbled, they gathered in glee”.
Do you remember any occasion where you helped someone close to you; a friend or a family member. When you sacrificed everything to help and support them but at the first sign of trouble in your life, they abandoned you like what David describes in the Psalms as “like one bereaved” ?. Yet when they were in need, you denied yourself for their sake. You took their trouble as though they were your brother, sister or even mother (v.14) but now that you are in trouble “they gathered in glee”. Now that you lost your job, or you fell ill, or you didn’t make the cut, or you are divorced, or your child is battling addiction; the very people you sacrificed for, sneer Aha Aha! (v. 21). How does that make you feel? Abandoned and lonely, hopeless, abused and neglected?
David called passionately to God to come to his rescue. Like David, I would like to encourage you today, this Monday to remember that God is in the throne and answers prayers. He feels our pains because he went through it. They abandoned him at the cross too. They sneered Aha Aha! God raised from the grave. Jesus is alive!
I want to pray that you arise from the ‘grave’ that has overwhelmed you because Jesus conquered it all. I pray that you let go all the bitterness that has overburdened you in the past. Jesus Christ refreshes and renews our spirit every day. Call on him in prayer and supplication and he will rescue you. Be blessed and have a wonderful week ahead. Amen
